The World Series of Poker (WSOP) is an annual series of poker tournaments that has been held in Las Vegas, Nevada since 1970. The WSOP is considered the most prestigious event in the world of poker and attracts thousands of players from around the globe.

The WSOP was started by Benny Binion, a casino owner in Las Vegas. Binion invited a group of the best poker players in the world to compete in a series of cash games at his casino, the Horseshoe. The event was successful and became an annual occurrence, with the winners of the various games being crowned the “World Champion of Poker.”

Over the years, the WSOP has evolved into a multi-event tournament series with a variety of different games and formats. In addition to the traditional no-limit hold’em, the WSOP now features events in other popular poker variations such as pot-limit Omaha, seven-card stud, and mixed games. The WSOP also includes a main event, which is a no-limit hold’em tournament with a multi-million dollar prize pool.

The WSOP has helped to popularize the game of poker and has made household names out of many of its champions. It remains the most prestigious event in the world of poker and attracts the best players from around the globe.
